The Gifu Rice Paper Table Lamp draws on the paper lantern tradition of Gifu, Japan, where lanterns have been crafted from paper and slender ribs for centuries. A fine white rice paper shade is hand pasted over a slim black iron frame, softening the bulb into an even, ambient glow that feels warm and calm rather than bright.
Because each shade is assembled and bonded by hand, small traces of the process may be visible along the edges. They are part of the character of the piece, and no two lamps are exactly alike. When lit, the iron ribs appear as a faint rhythm through the paper; when off, the lamp reads as a light, sculptural form on a sideboard, console or bedside table. It suits Japandi, minimalist and mid-century interiors equally well.
